Soil Amendment Calculator
Calculate how much lime, sulfur, or gypsum to add to adjust your soil pH or calcium levels.
How It Works
Enter your current soil pH, target pH, and garden area. The calculator recommends the amount of agricultural lime (to raise pH) or sulfur (to lower pH) needed based on standard extension service guidelines.
Formula
Amendment (lbs/1000 sq ft) based on soil test pH and target pH
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ideal soil pH for vegetables?
Most vegetables grow best at a soil pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Blueberries prefer acidic soil at 4.5 to 5.5. Brassicas like slightly alkaline conditions around 7.0 to 7.5.
How long does lime take to change soil pH?
Agricultural lime takes 2-6 months to fully raise soil pH. Apply in fall for spring planting. Pelletized lime acts a bit faster. Hydrated lime acts fastest but can burn plants if over-applied.
