Soil Volume Calculator

Calculate the volume of soil needed for garden beds, pots, and planting areas based on dimensions.

How It Works

Enter the length, width, and desired depth of your planting area. The calculator multiplies these dimensions to give total cubic feet, then converts to cubic yards and bags.

Formula

Volume (cu ft) = Length (ft) x Width (ft) x Depth (ft)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate soil volume?

Multiply the length by the width by the depth of your garden bed. For example, a 4 ft x 8 ft bed that is 12 inches (1 ft) deep needs 32 cubic feet of soil.

How many bags of soil do I need?

A standard 1.5 cu ft bag covers 1.5 cubic feet. Divide your total cubic feet by 1.5 to get the number of bags needed.
